augusta

Hi YAll...

Yep.. thats right.. we are here in the deep south of America in Augusta, Georgia.. home of the grits and the egg biscuit. Ive never heard of an egg biscuit before, but I found it a rather interesting food concept.

We are on the tour bus at the moment driving from Augusta to the next gig in Jacksonville. Im sitting in my (very cosy) bunk and the rest of our bus are up in the front lounge watching THIS IS SPINAL TAP. For all of you too young to have seen this mockumentary about a fading rock band.. you must see it... it really is hilarious. It is especially relevant to people in the music industry, as it so typifies all of the crazy things that can happen in the promotion and touring of a band. Sometimes things really do suck this much.

So.... we arrived into Augusta and were immediately hit by the humidity of the place. We all suddenly felt very, very tropical and most of the band spent their afternoon here lying beside the pool.

The gig tonight was held outdoors at Fort Gordon Army base. It was attended by around 5,000 people and was an absolutely fabulous first show. Darrens voice was in peak condition.. the band were in high spirits and Daniel was so deliriously happy that I almost had to slap him across the face to get him to wake up to himself and stop being so joyous! Ha.. just kidding.. but, you know.. it was the whole, first day on tour vibe and the atmosphere was great. In fact, I think it was the extreme heat and the accompanying sweating to follow that was really the star of the day. I know that there wasnt one person in the band or crew that did not feel they were having a major cardio workout just by the simple act of ingesting oxygen. I know, okay.. I know.. Im being a LITTLE dramatic, but hey, Ive just come from San Francisco and its fog and Im still very jetlagged from the flight... so, if I happen to be feeling a little hot and sweaty, it all makes sense!

I managed to get a few photos for you of the start of the show, but almost didnt! Something that really comes as no surprise... I forgot to take my Access All Areas pass with me. I did not care, as for some reason I thought the ENTIRE WORLD knew that I worked for Savage Garden. Obviously, the Military Police who were guarding the event didnt seem to think so. I was in there happily snapping away on the digital camera when one man (whom we shall refer to as GI JOE.. not very original, I know.. but hey, kill me.. its 3.00 in the morning) quite fiercely questioned my existence. Assuming hed instantly recognise me.. I tried to brush him off with a cool and totally disinterested Im with the band.. but unfortunately I was strongarmed out of there... so forgive me if there are not enough pictures of the first night of the USA tour.

Darren has just interrupted me. He is on the bunk beside me and he has just discovered that Ive put my trainers in his suitcase.. and Im being politely asked for the on the reason for their appearance there. Because Darrens the Star and Darren gets to have an ENTIRE FREE BUNK to himself to lay out his luggage, while the rest of us have but a little drawer. I guess that is just what happens when you are the boss! Oh.. ha ha.. he just saw me writing this and Im now allowed to keep my trainers in his suitcase. The power of the written word!

So.. tomorrow we are in Jacksonville, Ill try and send you some info about that and more goss from the road as soon as I can.

I can.
