I'm in Sydney
Australia. It's so incredibly beautiful. I had my first night off since
I got here today. I must admit, it's been a while since I did promo and
it really is a lot of work!! Even though the single 'insatiable' doesn't
even go to radio for a few weeks..I'm obviously here to begin the process
of letting people know I've got a record coming out. I'm doing what we
call long lead press. It's magazine interviews, photoshoots etc etc. that
need months of advance time in order to make their deadlines, so you usually
do it upfront. In Australia that involved interviews and photoshoots for
Rolling Stone, InStyle... interviews for Smash Hits etc etc.. T.V things...
also playing the album SPIN to the media and the record company.I'm primarily
here to shoot the video for insatiable and am managing to fit in a little
bit of time to see my family in Brisbane before I leave for L.A to do
the album cover shoot and then go on to Japan and Europe for the same
sorts of things before Christmas.
What can I tell you? SPIN is done. We got the final mastered copy of the
music two days ago. I'm so proud. You better play it loud! Today I played
the album for the first time to the public. It was a small section of
the Radio and Media in Australia at John Woodruff's house. It was such
a magical day. I wasn't nervous. I was proud and I'm still smiling over
the memory of hanging out with music guru Molly Meldrum for the full 67
minutes of the album. He listened (UP LOUD!) to all 13 tracks and it still
blows me
away that this man I used to look up to in awe as he spoke fondly of the
genius of Michael Jackson...was now speaking fondly of my work.
Speaking of Mr Jackson...I just got Invincible. Man! Thankyou Michael
for still managing to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up with
the joy of your voice and the genius of your talent. The world may knock
you my friend but you will always be my inspiration. It's all about your
song Speechless. Possibly the best song you've ever written.
I wanna tell you all the things that the record companies never want me
to (because things change so much)...But... how's this for some good news?
Insatiable, the first single, is to be delivered to radio around the world
by December... with a second single in Feb... and SPIN the album March
18.There are 12 tracks on the u.k and u.s
albums... 13 on the Australian and Japanese versions. Where commercial
singles are available there will be two versions. There are several remixes
(one I did)...two by new DJ phenomenon Specificus and a Victor Calderone
club mix...plus two brand new
songs not on the album. Ride! and Falling At Your Feet. These two songs
are the first of a batch of songs that didn't make it on to the album
that I'm calling 'the rough sketches'. Basically I wrote 35 songs for
SPIN and the ones I didn't finish or only did a rough demo version of
will be appearing as b-sides or as downloads for free if you buy the record.
No more complaints about bsides!!
As you can probably tell I'm really excited about this record. I've just
so much music to share and I can't wait for you to hear it.
A few words to describe the sound of the album?
Fun. Pop with a capital P. Electronic. R&B.
Funky. Sexy. ROMANTIC. ROMANTIC. ROMANTIC!!!
The first single? Perhaps not what you'd think. Maybe the best thing I've
ever done. Imagine what the Moulin Rouge would sound like if it were a
song. Imagine Fred and Ginger dancing to Santana. The world sultry comes
to mind. Romantic. There's that word again.
I love you.
So much.
Stay safe. Be positive.
xxxxxalways
